Dribbling

Smoothness of the dribbling, keeping the

ball under control while dribbling (speed

dribbling)

Equipment : balls.

 

Dribbling :

 

One ball per player.

Players dribble the ball according to the

trainer's instructions.

Players have to keep their heads up while

dribbling.

 

Progression

 

 at the trainer's signal

- accelerate in the opposite direction

- use right or left foot only to dribble

- use only either the inside or the outside

of the foot to dribble

Dribbling + shooting course :

 

Two goals 25 yards away from each

other.

A dribbles until B (then stays in B) ; B

dribbles the ball and shoots at the goal ;

after the shot, B goes to A.

Same for C and D in the other side

shooting in the oppsite goal.

- working on both feet : shooting right and

left foot

Equipment: balls, cones, pinnies (1 color).

 

Head up while dribbling :

 

8 attackers/4 defenders/8 balls.

Using cones, form small goals (2 yds.)

that you will spread out on the field (25x25

sq. yds.). The eight attackers each have a

ball and the four defenders do not. To

score, the attackers have to dribble the

ball past the defenders and through one

of the small goals.

One point is given for each goal.

The winner is the player who scores the

most goals within 1 1/2 minutes. Do

several rounds, changing the defenders

each time.

- Use left foot only

Dribbling :

 

Groups of four/one ball per player/six

cones per group.

Place the cones in a line about 2 yds.

apart (see diagram).

Each player goes through the slalom

course dribbling the ball around the

cones.

- only using the inside of the foot

- only using the outside of the foot

Equipment : balls, cones.

 

Dribble and shoot course :

 

Two goals are placed opposite each other

25 yds. apart.

The first player at position A dribbles the

ball the ball through the course and

shoots at the goal. He then retrieves his

ball and gets behind the line of players at

position B.

Starting at the same time but going in the

opposite direction, the first player at

position B does the same. At the end of

his run, he goes to position A.

The players continue the exercise for 20

minutes without stopping.

 

Coaching points :

 

- work on being effective (goal scoring)

- use right foot and left foot when shooting
