expertly taken penalties and neither keeper had been given a sniff
of a save as Queens Park and AFC Ewell remained deadlocked. The crowd
were begining to wonder if they were ever going to get Sunday lunch
when Dan Oliver stood strong and beat out Ewell's ninth penalty of
this U14 league cup quarter final to open the door for Park. Jorden
Best stepped up and belied the pressure to hammer the winning penalty
home and send Park through to a semi final. This marathon followed a very competitive cup tie played in a great spirit in which both sides fought mightily to snatch victory. There were two key moments on the game. The first a superb save from Oliver, low to his right as Ewell looked to build on an early lead. Successfully defending the resulting corner, Park swept down field in the best move of the match and Best finished off a six man move to bring the sides level. The second moment saw Ewell put the ball in the net midway through the second half, only to see the linesman flag and the goal ruled out. Ewel edged teh first half but Park were the better in the second. Both sides had chances to win the game but neither could take them and neither could take the advantage through extra time. So to a long penalty shoot out!! A good, resilient performance from all of the squad today, a great deal of character shown and a good result obtained. |
