Queens Park bounced back from defeat to the league leaders last week with
a one of their best performances of the season as they dominated a Chessington
Sports side from start to finish and ran out 4-0 winners.
On a flat pitch in excellent condition Park opened brightly, passing and
moving as they sort to break down a well drilled Sports defence. Park took
control winning the midfield battles and were first to the ball all over
the pitch.
Several half chances came and went with Park having all of the play. When
Dan Oliver headed goalwards the keeper was beaten but the ball was cleared
off the line. Just when the crowd thought it was going to be one of those
'nearly' days a flash of brilliance from Samuel Honey broke the deadlock.
Collecting the ball on the edge of the penalty box he ghosted past two
defenders before flicking the ball past the onrushing keeper with his right
foot.
.Sports tried to get back on terms but Park were having none of it and
when Sam Varley reacted quickest to a long through ball he easily rounded
the keeper to make it 2-0 Park at half time.
The second half continued in much the same fashion. The Queens park defence
were solid and repelled any attack Sports could mount whilst th e midfield
and forwards lokked threatening every time they went forward. The third
goal came from the back, literally. A Joe O'Grady punt from just inside
the Chessington half deceived the Sports keeper and drifted in. More chances
came and went before the fourth as Jorden Bartlett followed up when a James
Rumble strike came back from crashing into keeper and then bar.
Sports thought that they would gain a consolation when the referee gave
a penalty for an apparent handball. Luke Harvey, who had had litle to do
all game, dived low to his left to block the shot and ensure that a deserved
clean sheet was maintained.
Good performances alround from the boys today, good passing and great teamwork
were the keys to this victory.
