A Sam Varley hat-trick was the highlight as Queens Park U13s proved too
hot for Hook Youth and comfortably progressed in the E&E League Cup.
The tone of the match was set inside five minutes when Jorden Bartlett
latched onto a good through ball from James Rumble and from wide on the
right unleashed a shot that was too good for the Hook keeper. Hook tried
to come back but got no change out of a very mean QPFC defence with Saul
Johnson and Paul Holliman stopping any breaks down the flanks.
Varley's hat-trick then came in a ten minute purple patch for the visitors. The opener, a first time left foot chip that gave the keeper no chance, the second, in similar fashion, after a smart turn and the third, driven with the right foot after clever approach play by the excellent Samuel Honey
4-0 at half time, it could have been more as further good work from Connor Fitzpatrick and Ryan Sandford created several chances and only the linesman's flag robbed Zach Williams as he followed up a Samuel Honey strike against the bar.
In the second half QPFC kept the game
under control. Matt Greenslade, Joe O'Grady and Alex Dawkes were rock
solid at the back and when called upon, Luke Harvey's handling was
safe and secure.
Joseph Dunne nearly made it five with a fine strike that beat the keeper
but unfortunately, also the post. Bartlett wrapped it up just before the
finish, beating defender and then keeper to the ball and then rolling it
into an empty net.
Five goals, a clean sheet and some excellent football from a team that
is really starting to gel. Well done boys.
