Baptism of fire for girls
10th September 2006
After weeks of getting ready the girls took to the field of play for the first time, against Abbey Rangers - the division 1 winners from last season.
Being their first competitive game all the girls were nervous at
the thought of playing. They started slowly and were one goal behind inside 5 minutes. However, this seemed to settle them and from that moment on they started playing well, forcing the Abbey players into some good defending and ensuring that the Abbey Keeper had some work to do.
With Harriet, Danielle and Sarah working hard at the back, blocking and clearing well, Charlotte, Honor and Beth were doing well in the midfield and taking the game to Ranger - passing it when they could. Emily and Simone came the closest to scoring, hitting the inside of the post and forcing several corners.
Abbey Rangers showed they have been playing for some time as they moved well and created some good chances they scored three more goals before the end but this game was more about QueensPark and the final score does not tell the full story. Stand up girls you did well.
At the end all the parents and the coach gave them a round of applause as they had been doing all the way through the game.
