Sunday saw Queens Park Girls Under 10's grab their first win of the season, away to Bedfont Sports.
It was a performance full of determination, passion and effort and the
girls got the result they thoroughly deserved. It's been a bit of a wait
for the result to come, but the girls have been working so extremely hard
in their development training, that it just had to happen sooner or later.
After a goal-less first half, Queens Park knew they had it in them to grab a result in the second half. But after captain Shauna Wise was twice pipped by the last defender and Megan Apps' well struck corner came back out off the post, the parents and coach, Matt Williams, were starting to wonder if it was going to be their day.
Luckily it was, top goal scorer Michaela Woods broke through from midfield
to get one on one with the goal keeper. Keeping a cool head, she neatly
slotted the ball past the oncoming keeper to give Park that all important
goal.
With the ever impressive Alex Neville in defence, Park kept it tight at the back and kept their 1 - 0 lead right to the very end.
The girls and parents alike were ecstatic and it was thoroughly deserved.
Alex Neville was named Girl Of The Match, for her superb performance in defence, full of determination and courage.
